| june 2008 release ; the first of two compilations of jean-pierre massiera’s “singles” - this volume covering his early years working in styles prevalent in the era ; surf music (listen to the sound-sample), go-go, funk, acid rock, proto-techno / electro, etc ...
now ; before you start thinking i’ve finally lost my mind, keep in mind that massiera was in fact the architect of both les maledictus sound and horrific child ; easily two of the best library-music lps out there (see below or click on massiera’s name for a cd reissue of those)... this and the other comp are most certainly for those that have already come out the other side of that particular looking-glass. massiera’s often confounding production choices involving “borrowed” segments (the second side of the lp opens with a straight lift from pink floyd’s “several species of small furry animals ...”) & odd, misplaced concrète-lineage noises are always a treat ...
extremely well-done reissue(s), with full-color sleeves and inserts reprinting the original artwork of the singles in question, plus an extended bio by jean garand & larsen nick (in both english & french). if you’re willing to let down your guard a little bit, you just might discover some impressively odd music herein ... perfect for your next block-party / dj set ... |

| jean-pierre massiera psychoses freakoïd (1963-1978)
bio this is the story of jean-pierre massiera, the mastermind behind the maledictus sound. released in 1968, this album was his epiphany, produced with no artistic constraint or pressure to produce a hit. man with a blurred artistic vision, he is an artist with not one plan, but many plans, whose career started with early 60’s french beat groups spread through the 70’s, 80’s and up to the present, where he now works in various french studios. this is a work made of absurd blunts, delirious outtakes, outrageous a&r demands, rip offs, some unashamed (daddy & mama-boney m), some obscure (napoleon xiv) and of course, brilliant fuck ups. a career made of loops, woops, of hits and misse.
all tracks very rare and sought after on ebay / gemm etc... for astronomical prices. includes drop card with full lp version download and one unreleased track. released only in lp and digital format. |
