reported missing in a hardware store includes a dvd, a cd and a bilingual booklet on the work of jean-pierre gauthier, a montréal artist known for his kinetic sound installations. the dvd presents 23 installations produced since 1997, while the cd brings together 16 tracks from the artist’s studio research and sound installations. a text by media curator nicole gingras enhances our understanding of this unique body of work. a list of the works reproduced is included in this boxed set. a prolific artist, jean-pierre gauthier has participated in several media art and sound art events and exhibited his work in museums and galleries both in canada and internationally.

kinetic sound-scupltor gauthier’s name should be familiar from his recent oral-label dvd & cd set ; his “machine” / percussion duets are a real highlight here (listen to the sound-sample - i’ve also put a relevant image of one of his installations below in lieu of a press-text) , as are goldstein’s errant violin scrapings (with or w/o the morse code accompaniment) ...

the second disc, much like the arcand “transfuge” set, is a video-disc containing film-clips of the pieces herein (it’s especially nice to see the gauthier setup in action !!!) & documentation of the event(s) in question ...
