john heward, percussions malcolm goldstein, violon david prentice, violon, violon alto rainer wiens, guitar préparéé | 2000 release ; great set of sound-art, free improvisation, and experimental instrument studies from varying combinations of jean-pierre gauthier, malcolm goldstein, robert m. lepage, john heward, raymond gervais, mirko sabatini, david prentice, and rainer wiens, released to concide with an exhibition entitled “montréal télégraphe” ...
kinetic sound-scupltor gauthier’s name should be familiar from his recent oral-label dvd & cd set ; his “machine” / percussion duets are a real highlight here (listen to the sound-sample - i’ve also put a relevant image of one of his installations below in lieu of a press-text) , as are goldstein’s errant violin scrapings (with or w/o the morse code accompaniment) ...
the second disc, much like the arcand “transfuge” set, is a video-disc containing film-clips of the pieces herein (it’s especially nice to see the gauthier setup in action !!!) & documentation of the event(s) in question ... |
