pioneer, innovator and visionary are words easily associated with toshiji mikawa. one of the prime movers of japanese noise, he started his musical activities in the late 1970s and joined the legendary and notorious hijokaidan. in 1981 he formed incapacitants to pursue his interest in pure noise, in contrast to the more performance art oriented hijokaidan of that time. initially a solo project, later he was joined by fumio kosakai to make incapacitants a duo that has been widely acknowledged for their extreme sound and intense live performances.

gyo-kai elegy is the debut cd release under mikawa's own name. it grants us a close-up view of his sound which is normally immersed inside incapacitants' mighty sound structures. we get highly detailed, unforgiving electric annihilation, invoking images of imaginary lifeforms trapped inside cages of silicon crystals. occasionally the sound expands into juggernaut drones or floats away into a cavernous space that seems to be inhabited by morbid bats screaming at piercing sub-ultrasonic frequencies. once again, mikawa-san shows us all how to create noise with intensity, perspective and character without a hint of compromise.

brand new re-mastered and expanded edition of this long out-of-print seminal live cd from japan's marble sheep (or to give them their full title on this release: marble sheep and the run-down sun's children). this was originally issued by cold spring back in 1995, and sold out within a week of release.

this classic marble sheep line-up boasts the inclusion of some giants of the japanese scene. members of zeni geva, incapacitants and hijokaidan all grace the cd for this blistering performance. this is by no means a noise release though -- it is incendiary japanese rock music in the tradition of the likes of high rise, fushitsusha and acid mothers temple.

the cd is lavishly housed in a beautiful mini-lp gloss laminated sleeve, with brand new full color artwork. it is rounded off with the inclusion of two previously unreleased tracks from the same period in the band's history. the special mini-lp packaging is exclusive to the first 1000 copies.

absolutely most awaited full-length vinyl from incapacitants, is the purest noise enthusiast, originally formed by t. mikawa since 1981 in japan. here is the first ever solo lp vinyl in 20 years since the legendary album 'repo' published by alchemy records in 1989.

side-a titled 'k's family' features three brand new recordings with solid sense of direction keeping vigorous strength and stormy dynamics on each track. side-b is a long piece excerpted from overwhelming live recording as typical supreme tag team formation with f. kosakai at showboat in tokyo, 3 june 2007.

this is not only the new testament for all of noise fundamentalist, but also the shining introduction for those who are going to be resident in true noise fields. maximum purity as psychosomatic union proved by intensive electronics causing ghostly and fertility atmosphere filled with harshness. 'tight' is the same pronunciation with the most complex kanji character formed by three dragons and three clouds.

incapacitants needs no introduction; the duo of fumio kosakai and t.mikawa; veterans and originators of japanese noise music; cult band number one for noise fanatics worldwide; a band whose infamous status as the best live noise act ever has continued to grow over the years because the duo almost never plays outside of japan.

in january 2007 incapacitants performed live, for the second time in europe in 25 years, at the all ears festival in oslo norway for an overly enthusiastic audience (people from all around europe had travelled to see their heroes). the band later described the two shows as highlights of their career.

burning orange documents these concerts. the cd consists of two complete sets; one incapacitants as a duo and on the second joined by finnish noise-connoisseur tommi keränen (testicle hazard) as a trio under the name of fumio tommiakawa (a take on gomikawa fumio; the trio of pain jerk and incapacitants).

the sound of incapacitants is described in the liner notes of burning orange by tommi keränen as "an inspiring, pure, all-encompassing, ecstatic storm of sound that has a power of near-religious proportions – and that alone, without any unnecessary gimmicks". that celebratory ecstasy certainly comes across on burning orange, of which keränen also handled the post-production under the supervision of mikawa.

possibly the penultimate release in a series of locked-groove releases instigated by rrron “emil beaulieau” lessard back in 1993 with the “rrr-100” 7” single record (feat. 50 locks per side by folks like jim o’rourke, idea fire company, borbetomagus, skullflower, chop shop, new blockaders, et.al) then again in 1998 with the “rrr-500” lp (250 on each side by ... one a piece by pretty much a who’s who of late-90s experimental sound) ...

and now, 11 years later, we get the next logical evolutive step ; 1000 locked grooves (500 per side !!!) ; 50 each by 20 artists picked by rrron based on the following algorithm ::

this time i decided to focus on only 20 artists and give them plenty of room to stretch out - really glad i did because this one is much more solid than the other two, noisewise

before i invited the artists, i had devised a simple formula for myself
50/50 = noise/electronic (experimental)
50/50 = new/old school
50/50 = usa/intn'l
50/50 = people i always work with/people i've never worked with

the unsung genius / hero here is undoubtedly aardvark mastering’s paul brekus, who must have spent countless man-hours getting the metal mothers cut just right (i can only imagine the number of time he got halfway through cutting a side before making a single mistake & having to start over from scratch !!!) ... despite the fallout from such a thing a thing (i.e. the deluge of blackened noise tapes & cdr’s i’m going to be handed at gigs over the next year or so comprised of “prurient loops” will undoubtedly be bafffling) the quality & attention to detail put forth by just about everyone is seriously impressive ... easily on the records of the year thusfar & a testament to the staying power & endless, mutating possibilities of the vinyl lp record ...

highest recommendation !!!
