- horn of plenty
| march 2012 release ; ... i’ve been majorly impressed with the last few live performances i’ve caught by robert “raub” roy’s solo horaflora project ; always a hodge-podge of discarded consumer tech, computer-based control systems, and all manner of in-situ sound-producing & setups manifested (visually) as a table covered in rube goldberg-esque stations, (audibly) producing a dense tapestry of constantly flitting, self-automating timbres rooted in feedback & digital synthesis ...
... while he’s been quite prolific over the last 5 years, i count this as his full-length vinyl debut (there was a great split w/ bromb treb on neeeeel’s yeay! tapes ... and a split with secret boyfriend on ryan’s hot releases) ; it’s a great way to check out robert’s music for the first time as, over the two side-length pieces, we’re treated to the full range of his approach(es) ... |

craterellus cornucopioides
true eai from veteran bay area wizard raub roy, with one caveat: fun. electroacoustic blurps and squirts spew surprisingly and academically, yet are mixed not with dead eyes and cardigans but a hoodie made of bark resting above the collarbone, several inches below a grin. this is textural music for meditative exploration--not for distant worlds or circuitry, but to supplement the ferns growing along a cabin fence and the microscopic worlds those ferns house. nature can be evil too, but if it kills you it will do so with a cheshire catted smile. features two sidelong pieces, each complemented by ildiko's cover photograph.
200 pressings made at bill smith, plates from aardvark, readied by brad rose. |
