brand new re-mastered and expanded edition of this long out-of-print seminal live cd from japan's marble sheep (or to give them their full title on this release: marble sheep and the run-down sun's children). this was originally issued by cold spring back in 1995, and sold out within a week of release.

this classic marble sheep line-up boasts the inclusion of some giants of the japanese scene. members of zeni geva, incapacitants and hijokaidan all grace the cd for this blistering performance. this is by no means a noise release though -- it is incendiary japanese rock music in the tradition of the likes of high rise, fushitsusha and acid mothers temple.

the cd is lavishly housed in a beautiful mini-lp gloss laminated sleeve, with brand new full color artwork. it is rounded off with the inclusion of two previously unreleased tracks from the same period in the band's history. the special mini-lp packaging is exclusive to the first 1000 copies.

hijokaidan: polar nights live

hijokaidan has since 1979 been one of the leading voices in japanese noise music. starting out with a broad line-up of performers, eventually in the course of the 80-ies the hijokaidan sound became easily identifiable with the shredding guitar-sound of band-leader jojo hiroshige and the high-pitched piercing voice of junko. few noise acts have such an instantly recognizable (and intense) sound.

although hijokaidan's status as noise superstars they rarely perform outside japan. the pleasure was then ever greater for the all ears festival in oslo norway to present hijokaidan at their festival in january 2006. polar nights live documents these historical and astonishing performances.

jojo and junko performed as a hijokaidan two-piece on the opening night of the festival, a rarely heard line-up. their performance got such a tremendous response that they came back for an encore (otomo yoshihide, longtime hijokaidan fan who also performed at the festival, proclaimed "incredible! hijokaidan never does encores!"). the second night jojo collaborated with guitarist per gisle galåen (del, the birds), unleashing thick layers of psychedelic and distorted guitar fog, which fans of of fushitsusha, les rallizes denudes and jojo's non-hijokaidan work will appreciate. the final night saw junko hooking up with noise-nik sten ove toft (ryfylke) for a hellish meltdown of twisted electronics and the most intense voice in music.

unlike most other noise acts hijokaidan has not spoiled their fans with a huge number of releases, which makes polar nights live an even more unique statement of pure noise sound.

an historical concert

borbetomagus and hijokaidan sharing the stage. noise music fans are getting goosebumps reading those words. others, well... others should be scared, very scared! two monster proponents of noise esthetics, representing two continents whose cultures have often been described as incompatible and yet meet in the celebration of noise. purifying noise annihilating nationalities and differences. noise inviting us to a fabulous sonic orgy where energy will reign over precision of execution, where violence is sublimated through strings, reeds and skins, where artistic research consists in destroying over and over what one has managed to build, in order to reinvent it. two sax players, two guitar players, an electronics player, a singer and a drummer, all working hard to convince you that noise can be a lot more than noise, but exists mostly for making some noise!
