a nuts and bolts label return to live documentation recorded by myself on one noisy night in nyc in 2006. deathunit would be the no fun double drummer supergroup comprised of carlos giffoni (electronics), brian sullivan (guitar, mouthus), trevor tremaine (drums hair police), and chris corsano (drums every band). if gaping maw had a big brother it would be deathunit.

prurient is dom fernow of hospital productions on electronics voice and hellbent commitment to inflict noise and feedback on the audeience.

“two of my favorite modern noise makers from the states have to be hair police and iovae. this is very close to being a split from both.

iovae is ron orovitz also known as the d.j. on art damage radio, a memeber of the no-wave nosie group death beam, a noise weirdos wild gunman. for iovae's track we get slow churning crackle, pop and hiss from the "grinder" (a series of ancient military oscillators) that builds into what sounds like the church bell tones of a satanic mass echoing through the devils canyon.

3 legged race is robert from hair police and eyes and arms of smoke. for the race side we get one ominous heavenly droning swelling tone which is given the extreme reverb treatment until it sounds like a white washed blissed out radiant hum.

the artwork was designed by robert and is a must see. one sheet of lines with a transparency of lines. but when one is placed over the othere, you start to see a hidden image. also just moving the transparency around on top of the other page makes alot of tripped out intersecting lines. like i said one you have to see, def one of the best looking, most intresting covers in epicene history.

limited edition of 300 copies, split release with mark of black tent's gentian label.”

hair police is an american psychedelic noise rock band based out of lexington, kentucky formed in 2001. they have released records through labels such as troubleman unlimited, hanson records, gods of tundra, freedom from, and hospital productions. they have also released a split record on load records with viki. members of hair police have also played with other groups such as wolf eyes, eyes and arms of smoke, burning star core, three legged race, von hemmling, ulysses, warmer milks, and attempt.

hair police formed in january 2001 in lexington, kentucky. the original line up was robert beatty, ross compton, mike connelly, matt minter, and trevor tremaine. the band released the history of ghost dad cassette to coincide with its first live show on april 13th, 2001. compton stopped playing with the band in the summer of 2001. minter left the band in october 2002. connelly moved to michigan at the end of 2003 and joined wolf eyes in the spring of 2005.

the band has toured extensively in the u.s. with wolf eyes, prurient, kites, graveyards, heathen shame, no doctors, nautical almanac, sightings, mammal, neon hunk, and most notably with sonic youth in august of 2004.

lexington, kentucky's hair police are one of the most progressive and productive thrashy noise bands out there. if you've experienced them live, then you know that already! with a steady flow of head banging, noise rawkin releases on various labels (gods of tundra, animal disguise, load, freedom from, etc.), hair police have been steadily carving a niche into the noise/experimental music community. being witness to one wild chicago ride, we watched in absolute amusement as hair police took the stage and one by one destroyed everyone in the room (as well as themselves...) being torn limb from limb after walking on the hands of the crowd like clouds and then dropping the doom storm from above. totally out of control, and totally rad! on their side of this split 10" with crystal fantasy, hair police contribute 1 single nasty track entitled "straps and straps". mike connelly had this to say about it: "it's gnarly fucked up. no drums. just a really sick searing drip of the inside of a carcass." we agree! this sick pile will whip and beat your skull upon each repeated listen. do yourself a favor and get abused! let the gnarly times roll...

the members of milwaukee, wi's crystal fantasy are not new players to the game, just a new project with a new name. when asked what kind of description should accompany the news about this split 10", this is what we were told: "crystal fantasy is another glimmering aspect of neon hunk, illuminated by and sparkling under one thousand iridescent stars." oh yes!! take it back to the days when you were just too high to be reached - when the sky was filled with watercolored waves of cloudy blues and the sun shined like a billion crystals reflecting off the shimmering sky... "crystal fantasy are crystal, and they are fantasy." wow - instant cult classic!

august 2008 release ; first “proper” album from the hair police trio in some time ... literally caught these guys last night running through this new set of material and i must say they’ve far surpassed even wolf eyes in their relentless drive to attain the full-bleed electronic/drum/guitar plateau ... perfectly combining elements of power electronics, free jazz, and sound-art/circuit-bending to yield something entirely new. this disc shows the band at their peak, and is of course highly recommended !!!

two side-length pieces; the first very much in “electro-acoustic” mode, with robert’s mystery / self-built electronics firing away in varying frequency-ranges before a very warm / enveloping tonal drone takes over the remainder (just gorgeous - listen to the sound-sample) ... the second works variants on a descending synthesizer line straight out of the nik ‘pascal’ raicevic songbook, with solemn melodies and javanese temple-bells giving way to a woozy/pulsing mélange of electronic sound taking us straight under the waterfall ; our ears pressed to the telephone cable ...

you may have noticed the sheer unforgiving proliferation of hair police-relatable titles that have been flooding the mms gates for the past few months ... well, i’m a huge fan & i want to grant you access to as much as there is to hear. so there. as far as robert’s solo work is concerned, this is probably the single-best release of his out there, and of course it comes highly recommended !!!

odd coloured carpet of bizar 3d fields dominate the bright and lurid psychedelic forests u'll have to run thrue to grib a mug a brew at the end of the trip! hop on the back of a giant pink elephant and let go, eventually follow his tiny dick-like tail if u are to small to climb up this pink turt in space!

but do give it a try and check out whats left, thats right; nothing! just a puddle of restless throbbing poop in different colours. the elephant turns out to be a puddle as well and the sounds you're hearing are all on the most psychedelic hiar police lp so far! this is definatly way different then any of their other recordings, way more high bliss, blown out delayed voice and hardly any harchness.

originally recorded as a hair police radiospecial for radio centraal in antwerp!

whats inside the putrid, rotting, decrepid bandages ruined by the slow feral decay of time... its in your ears, that noise that creeps up in one small, rat-like, continous tonality of frozen windshields cracking from the chill of mortality that pulsates louder and louder and you caress the bandaged corpse and the dust of the long-deadened flesh shuffles from the caked, pale red cloth and the pulses turn to howls which are slashed quiet by the bludgeoning sterility of your mundane existence. take this with you under the dirt. this is the vinyl version of the cd that was released on hanson records.

ara "pick up & run 2007" lp captures two very performances of reed instruments, singing, percussion, and a very hazy thick atmosphere what might float over the flower fireworks captured in these two very performances. ara is the lexington ky-based duo of sara o'keefe and trevor tremaine of such outfits as eyes and arms of smoke, hair police, burning star core, sick hour, death unit, and rampart tapes board of direction.

however these adjectives of death sick police, of those maybe there need to be new descriptions in place -- we're not quite sure what it is but in this alternate universe it could be the peace police, skywatcher hour, life unit, colourful star party, etc. who are close neighbors. fleeting "jazz" reference, male/female lowlife love vocals, drugstore basement electroacoustic, just warm and cloudy all over like a yesterday today. feature the most complicated what the..? record covers so far, each unique handmade and silkscreened by paul coors; the materials you have grown come use to except melted together in rare effort. paintspray turns into watercolours, perfume, and northern lights -- with a mini-poster and edition of 177 (there is no controls on mother nature).
