la collection portraits polychromes veut combler quelques lacunes vis-à-vis de la monographie de compositeurs d'aujourd'hui. initiés en 2001 par le grm (groupe de recherches musicales) et le cdmc (centre de documentation de la musique contemporaine), les portraits polychromes se situent entre le simple catalogue et la compilation d'articles à caractère scientifique. ainsi, leur ordonnancement véritablement « polychrome » désire cerner un propos général sur la biographie et/ou l'esthétique d'un compositeur, proposer un texte inédit du musicien, un entretien récent et des analyses de ses œuvres.

    20 minutes of writhing sound, leitmotifs ranging from crackly, gated prepared piano, high-toned nose-whistling, and a discordant brass fanfare are introduced methodically, before returning for the piece’s climax (listen to the sound-sample) ...

    as with all bayle, this is essential listening, although it’s not exactly the best place to start ...

    motion-émotion - 22'01 - 1985

    can we hear the pure movement that rouses a sound "being"? perceive this movement in its very purity? first it is necessary to feel this being in its "beingness". a virtual immobility. a passive state: such. one might assume (in what is strictly a mental act). is the sound-filled material no thought quickens - a simple dissipation. a smooth irrational evaporation.

    suddenly an idea emerges. fragile and bewildered. it is immediately recognizable thanks to its quivering motion, its pulsed irregularity. its excited. ignited state: the unevenness produced by its gentle convolutions communicates to the listener a constant prickliness that awakens a current of attention. a tension.

    the "being's" inner propulsion is perceptible only on certain precise well-proportioned conditions of disappearance-and-reappearance and of interplay involving rapid physiological rhythms as minute and unconscious as the blink of an eye. the intention inspiring the motion begins to become legible in the scrolls of the calligraphy.

    what is the point of saying anything more?

    the "being" becomes a phenomenon. it grips me, becomes the fear i experience, the hunger i feel .. . i would like to understand its forms of love ...
