carlos giffoni’s former old bombs bandmate dino felipe (whose name you may recognize / remember from his run of oddly affecting, genre-resistant albums for the domestic idm hotbed schematic) here drops a downright confounding selection of home-recorded song-smithings, not all that far removed from ariel pink’s whole “thing” (mumbled vocal grumblings underpinned with copious overdubbed harmony tracks accompanied by errant drum-machine & direct-recorded guitar) ...

previously know for his electronic work with miami's schematic label and his experimental records on his own and with others (old bombs, fukktron, etc) this time dino stares right at the ghost of his mtv dreams childhood years and comes out of it with the most beautiful record of well put together songs you'll hear this year. a full instrumented record of pop rock, ballads, psychedelia, no-wave, rock noise and total mutations injected with dino's own unique approach. this is the pop music of the present, and a recording shooting to change the future.

first collaboration between solo electronic experimentors nick forté and dino felipe. shaggy black is deeply processed, yet presents an undeniably organic presence; a unique anomaly of both resplendent and savage textures. the union of man-made and machine-based sounds creates a truly fucked, purely psychedelic atmosphere of sonic scrawl and blistering fuzz with strange sounds permeating throughout. whimsical & frenzied carnival-like creations are jettisoned with moody, slightly terrifying washes. valid (yet vague) aural comparisons might be made to alvin lucier, fennesz, markus popp, sunroof!, wolfgang voight and boredoms.

we are on the edge of a genre that has no name. we've been compared to rowe's work with radio, cage, merzbow, organum, v/vm, pita, christian marclay. all those references are fine but don't really define what we were/are doing here. dino (felipe) and vanessa (payes) were my first really good friends in the us with whom i shared a similar musical outlook. after moving from miami, we kept sending original creations to each other and mutilating, layering, recombining, re-sampling and recursionizing them until they felt complete. in this way we have maintained our own dialogue about music. equipment has changed, abilities have evolved, and now after six years comes audios, our first 'official' cd. dig in or dig out.
