we, at ljud records, are indeed very proud to present our new release:
the major french laptop equilibrists: dat politics.

it's been “oh so quiet” for a long long time, but finally dat politics is ready to release again.
and oh my... what joyfull sounds!!

this time dat politics have moved even closer to the pop sphere. almost straight foreword songs, sweet melodies and catchy beats makes this record sound like the party you really wanna be at. but still they know that sweet melodies sounds the best when mixed with disturbing elements of noise.

imagine a band who's members are: hubba bubba bubblegum, 80’s nintendo games, all sorts of plastic space guns you got for christmas in 1983, fischer price music instruments, tons of fantasy, children's music on lsd, dadaism and one hell of a big love for music. this kind of band is dat politics!

side a contains the track roll taken from their new album wow twist, out on chicks on speed records from march 31st.
an uptempo classic melodic dat politics tune

side b contains two exclusive tracks: amazing dan and space kitchen companion. where as amazing dan is once again a sweet melodic nonsens-song based tune, with a deep fuzzy bass line and distinct clear melodies on top space kitchen companion is the big surprise of the 7”. on this track the french tradition for musique concrete is obvious, even though it isn't concrete. long dark soundscapes topped with sweet articulations of la-la-la’s.

dat politics are the founders of skipp records and have released on many respected labels such as: skipp, tigerbeat 6, chicks on speed records, fat cat, mille plateaux, a-musik etc.

dat politics channel a rough-edged turbo pop mood through their laptops to create some of the most unexpectedly catchy and lively music ever assembled by digital means. they use to keep the possibility of mistakes and chaos in their hot wired dance smash is by approaching songwriting and performance the same way a garage band might.

dat politics' new album 'blitz gazer' is an exhilarating reboot in the band's career. entirely recorded in berlin in 2011 by the newly formed duo, this new piece will certainly give satisfaction to the electro-maniac fanbase who will find in these 12 tunes their share of synthetic 80's hits, catchy loops and bouncy drum machines. less expected, but pleasantly surprising is their ability to turn the voltage level down by chanting neon lite robo ballads.

some dreamy melodic breaks rise in a rhythmic electric storm. we explore a brand new aspect of the band's wide influences and possibilities. blitz gazer is a magnificent patchwork, a dynamic and fanciful mixture that only dat politics could have pulled off.

re-issue of the reissue of dat.pol’s debut lp on their own skipp label, this time with a few more bonus tracks than were on the last reissue of this record. still my favorite of their output... far more minimal than more recent efforts, indivual ideas get more room to breathe without that insistent cloud of murk. i’ve never heard anything that gets closer to the inside of a pre-teen video-game obsessive’s musical mind (circa 1986). lo-bit klassik...

originally released as a vinyl-only lp on dat politics' skipp label in 1998, subsequently reissued by tigerbeat6 on cd with new art and two bonus tracks-- both versions have been out of print for quite a while-- this specially priced jewelbox reissues the second album made by the lille, france, electronics / computer quartet who create charmingly fucked-up, glitchy electronic beats, tones and melodies.

after many releases and collaborative work with innovative and respectable labels such as a-musik, mille plateaux, skipp, boytropp boy and berlin-based electro-trash label chicks on speed records, dat politics have established themselves as an ever evolving and always enjoyable staple of the electronic music community. they've been hailed by many as "the future electronic pop" and by the wire as "a total revelation ... bristling with possibilities.... structures are pushed and pulled, and explode excitedly, as thought and play become audible and contagious. their music falls somewhere between the off-center textures of oval or pita, and the splintered computer funk of team doyobi, kid606, or even mouse on mars.

the group was formed in 1998 as a 4 piece unit based in lille, northern france. since the beginning dat politics began to opperate in their own musical genre that became over the past years a certain kind of "hyper pop". mixing click-beats with glitch-melodies and sounds, but they sound very unlike most other laptop musicians. it’s all about a mixture between minimalism, electro - pop- acoustic & deconstructed techno, with a very joyful and humorous touch to it.

since their release of this years album "wow twist" the band got even more playful and wonderful than ever. for the tomlab alphabet singles series the found the time to create two brand new and exclusive tunes.
