getting rid of the glue (2006)
format: 12” vinyl
released november 30, 2006
limited 300 copies first run.

getting rid of the glue is a phrase first used by henry cowell before introducing the music of christian wolff, earl brown, morton feldman, and john cage at a new school concert in 1950s.

john cage in his influential lecture entitled “history of experimental music in the united states” recounts the remarks of henry cowell. "that here were ... composers getting rid of glue. that is: where people had felt the necessity to stick sounds together to make a continuity, we ... felt the opposite necessity to get rid of the glue so that sounds would be themselves." - john cage.

this will be the first in a series of "getting rid of the glue" themed lps dedicated to improv / experimental / & noise music.

limited to 300 lps so they wont last long.

...

dirty churches - blissed out and relentless feedback - improv - noise - free-rock collective (featuring members of hula and the beets)

spin-17 - motoko shimizu & ed chang. "spin-17 is a duo experimental project which explores contrasts and connections between harmony and noise, electronics and acoustics, toddlers and tea-totallers, obscenity and poetry. no genre is safe and the boundaries between art and doleful indulgence are blurred." - from their website

k.p. - improv-free-noise collective who keep a low profile but have recently been spotted in brooklyn with equipment in hand headed who-knows-where. keep an eye out for them. they're out there... somewhere...

big a little a - a never-ending rhythm experiment. "call the brooklyn-based quintet what they call their debut:big a little a, wherein every member doubles as a drummer and manipulator of electronic components, all shouting or murmering amid their spacey clamor." -- seattle weekly

fessenden - chicago-based electro-acoustic trio consisting of joshua convey, stephen fiehn, and steven hess (on, pan american, dropp ensemble)

eager meek - andré joel paul and a guitar

mialessot - mialessot on prepared guitar accompanied by daniel carter on saxophone (ny free-jazz legend) and old ghost (an assailant on homemade analog synths).

maria chavez - "improvised/abstract turntabilism" and it consists of all electro-acoustic sounds from only vinyl and needle. maria melts and mutates all forms of vinyl and has a collection of 8 broken styluses (and counting) that all get different sounds.

talibam! - a self-described "shitstorm skronk" trio consisting of ed bear - feedbacksaphone (crossing clouds), matt mottel - keyboards (nyc improv musician), kevin shea - drums (storm & stress, coptic light).

excepter - is a self-defined “synthetic protest band engineered to erase cultural distinctions through polarized confusion”” led by jfr, former member of the collective no neck blues band.

praemedia press release...
tracing various intersections of genres from improvisational jazz to plunderphonic electronics to field recordings, diverse splinters and fragmented roots sprout off into calm matrixes of sound. from japan (haco) through new york (the gold sparkle band) to italy (mou, lips!), the sounds merge in san francisco. pioneers of networked computer music (tim perkis) mix with modern masters (wobbly), alongside unheard musicians and odd collaborations. avant-jazz damaged blues sparks drum and bass roots to forage in an electrostatic world.
