considering that this is her debut, there’s a remarkable set of ideas on display here, from the opening side’s extended “improv” (to my ears largely a heavily lpf’ed field recording of air-movement) to the b-side’s more “numbered” offerings (check the ryoji-ikeda-esque spectral pulse near the end of the sound-sample) ... |

(note: tracklisting printed incorrectly on inside flap, see above for correct sequence).
excellent debut release from rhode island composer, caroline park. the slow-burning a-side churns field recordings and processed speech into a muted cavernous roar with an admirably subtle sense of development. on the flip, the b-side gives way to a set of shorter pieces that bring into relief a more discernibly electronic sound that sits well with the contemporary concerns of labels like raster-noton and sedimental. clocking in at just under an hour, these four brooding pieces of minimal electro-acoustic music usher in a kind of disquiet perfectly suited to gently disrupt a long evening.
