february 2008 release ; the ecstatic peace! debut from this trio with ties to the whole wolf eyes “thing” (guitarist bryan ramirez was in universal indians w/coorz - now he’s also in ex-cocaine) - an odd duck, stylistically ... your basement lo-fi guitar/drum riff/bash laced with errant saxophone squeal/squeak, recalling that steve mackay / sun city girls tour of rhodesia that never quite happened ...

two unexpurgated side-long jams that get from points a to b by simply folding the map ...

poor school started in april 2005 with bryan ramirez (gtr), john niekrasz (drms) and nathan hoyme (sax). we first caught wind of this sick noise/jazz/postpunk rock trio when john olson, he of american tapes, wolf eyes, dead machines etc brought ramirez’ other combo ex-cocaine (who have a sick new lp on siltbreeze out now) to the no fun basement a few years back and ramirez laid some poor school cdr action on us. needless to say we were buh-lown away by the manic improv hepness and immediately emailed the dude to see if we could slam some poor school magic onto black plastik. and unto ecstatic peace was delivered the holy master. ramirez and olson go waay back when the two of them jammed together in the nascent michigan underground psychedelic troupe universal indians. ramirez took off to missoula, montana to investigate micro-brews and mountain air and help put together the awesome ex-cocaine. he’s still there. niekrasz went to get high on life in india but is expected back sooner than later. upon his return we can hopefully expect poor school to shed new love and light and chaos for the future. keep yr eyes peeled.

early 90s blow-out by this group featuring wolf eyes’ john olson & ex-cocaine’s bryan ramirez (the two also played together in universal indians) ... sort of like the recent ecstatic peace! poor school lp (on which ramirez plays) ... only far more drug-addled & w/o the “rock” ...

1993 - we got our cherries busted with youth noise and desperate freedom. it was a call for musical separation from everything that plugged in and we fuckin got it. we (jeff dunn, john olson & bryan ramirez) met many evenings per week for over a year solid, most likely cranked around 200 sessions all recorded on 90 minute tapes - roughly 9000 minutes - all ground into dust, gone. shit was molded in the walls of 1610 kzoo st. lansing, mi, or ransacked by noise bums, or recorded over. but, there was one that got away from the doomhole - a second generation cassette.

the recording was at 6am before ramirez was to catch a flight to florida - road cone gravity bongs sent this fucker into sleepy-eyed wee-mugs that filed along towards school - periodically glancing at the house to hear this horrendous alien arguement thundering from sax/drums/guitar/keys all aligned in the rocket room. the recording is shattering.

minced analog skreedom recklessly curing informal ills and breaking windows from pure soundwave pressure. free sound from the early years all innocent-like. pure and demented is pure demented freedom. screened covers - killer liners/history lesson by john olson - limited run.
