| april 2010 release ; first (available ; apparently there’s a kyle bobby dunn title numerically preceding this one that’s yet to become tangible/available) disc on howard stelzer & ashley payne’s intransitive sub-label songs from under the floorboards ... these all come as factory-sealed jewel-case housed discs (recordables, yes, but pro-duped & printed/stickered with some very nice-looking designs) with proper booklets & tray-cards ... essentially the same spec as intransitive, albeit with a less homogenous sensibility / “look” (thanks to tone filth’s justin meyers) ...
here, over 60+ minutes, legendary french sound-artist christian renou takes us on a “cinema pour l’oreille” -lineage journey, full of twisting, oxygen-free landscapes, on par with the best contemporary musique concrète ... |

a vital force within the international cassette-culture noise underground of the 1980’s, the formidably prolific french composer christian renou / brume has been honing his furiously fractured outsider-musique-concrete for more than 30 years now. his latest, draft of confusion, is a stereo distillation of a disorienting piece for tapes, bowed cymbals, percolating synthesizer, and mangled voices that was originally presented as a multi-channel installation in portland, or in 2008. the subtly malevolent music starts out as a slowly expanding deep-space drone, churning uneasily and winding back in on itself until the whole thing dissipates into a haze of analog vapor.
