one of the best ambient lps of all time. eno's theory of the "discreet music" he called ambient was far from the modern chill-out room: the idea was that it should function at very low volumes, unobtrusively coloring the atmosphere of a room. evolving by tiny gradations, the long pieces of music for airports (the first in a series of albums that followed the statement of purpose discreet music) defy close attention, but then they're not meant to be listened to consciously; they're meant to serve as a counterpoint to the frantic arcs of travel, or rather to be imagined in that setting.

brian eno's second album collaboration with dieter moebius and hans-joachim roedelius of cluster consists of slow-moving instrumentals full of repeated synthesizer sound patterns and sustained guitar notes in the ambient style familiar from eno's collaborations with robert fripp and albums of his own, such as discreet music.

one song, “broken head,” features recited vocals by eno, and on another, “the belldog,” he sings. on “tzima n'arki,” his vocal is turned backwards.

originally recorded and released in 1977, this pioneer ambient music album brough together several legends of progressive electronic music; brian eno, solo artist and collaborator with david bowie, robert fripp, and roxy music; dieter moebius and hans-joachim roedelius, both of whom had made dozens of ground-breaking recordings throughout the 70’s.

this album was the first of several celebrated collaborations between these artists, whose influence looms over many current artists such as radiohead, aphex twin, massive attack, and tortoise.

the very first cd release of the classic 1980 compilation album from brussels with love, which was also the debut release from chic belgian indie label les disques du crepuscule (twi 007). originally released as a deluxe cassette/book package in november 1980 it featured 20 exclusive tracks from the international avant garde and new wave, as well as the celebrated factory records roster. then, as now, the contributing artists include gavin bryars, harold budd, dome, the durutti column, john foxx, martin hannett, richard jobson, bill nelson, new order and michael nyman. the programme also includes extended interviews with brian eno and iconic french actress jeanne moreau.

the cd has been digitally remastered from the original master tapes, and features 75 minutes of material. most of the tracks featured here remain unavailable elsewhere. for reasons of space just one has been deleted from the original cassette (a certain ratio), although this track is available on ltmcd 2443.

the 20-pages facsimile booklet features original artwork by benoît hennebert, claude stassart and jean-françois octave, as well as archive images and detailed liner notes.
