february 2008 release ; a one-sided lp featuring the duo of lambsbread’s zac davis (guitar) and graveyards’ ben hall (drums) - zac’s joe morris idolatry comes across as clean as his tone, but the best comparison i can make (which has been made time & time again - i know - but it’s apt ... ) is to the derek bailey / jamie muir “dart drug” lp on incus ...

suburban michigan is a breeding ground where every weirdo has a label, a band, and a handful of secret/under the radar collaborative projects. here graveyards' ben hall and lambsbread's zac davis create a monolithic one sider influenced by too many private press jazz records and abstract instrumentalism.

davis turns in his effect pedals for nothing; pure clean tones plucked up and down scales and bridges so uniquely that it is easy to confuse the guitar for a sax. ben hall drums like a man with four arms; constant rattling trap tapping and assorted pots and pans clattering, flowing completely smoothly. a perfect union of sound.in an edition of 300 copies in screened chipboard sleeves by anthony decanini.

there are still so many people steady trippin’ off the futurists and trying to make it faster and louder but it does that on it’s own. when screw decided to upend the idea of time and how one can listen to time, shit slowed everything down and it made sense. houston, the sprawl, the heat, the poverty. detroit, the sprawl, the cold, the poverty. there is a kinship and affection between the 1/4 speed, slo-mo, basement jazz and houston’s favorite codeine addict.

this recording was made with tapes, test presses, outtakes, all played in real time against graveboyz own post-cubist approach to screw mixing us from, where else? the graveyard. chopped up not slopped up. chris riggs adds his destroyed strings to the mix.

olson pulls 2 x duty on this low-level lurk meltdown. the dream time goes 2 vs. 2 for a 1/8 speed that sounds. like contact mic'd drifts of glaciers that make reverb seem like a concept developed by inuits this sound moves slower than slow and spotlight the intricacies of interaction afforded only between people have that particular michigan approach. tovah d-day is in particularly rare form on this one processing everyone in the group and serving as the lee perry on this one.

99 minutes of screeee-scrape-klang and sandpaper-texture heft from the percussion and guitar duo of ben hall and chris riggs, from michigan, usa. the two players here succeed in blending their respective instruments into the same architectural / industrial form, with drum scrape and guitar hiss swapping places and swapping back again, building smears and lines of echo and metal crying out.

if le corbusier and xenakis built a ship, and the ship fucking sank. slowly. it would sound like this.
