october 2008 release ; split between bay-area duo barn owl (whose side keeps the drone-love-vibes flowing ala their recent root strata disc) & charalambidestom carter (miles removed from the recent “shots at infinity” sides, more of an angry side-long fuzz-pedal freakout-take) ...

barn owl / tom carter - split lp (edt. 380)

newest blackest rainbow hot on the heels of some truly killer releases from the artists involved, both of whom seem to have really pushed their sounds and vibes to new levels this year. barn owl's side has been mastered by local jammer ben nash, and its three tracks of sparse drone layered with bleak guitar epic-ness, tingling chimes, and dark mountainous whispers. the guitars here sound delicate and beautiful, but it remains bleak and empty, if you enjoyed their lp on not not fun, then this is a real treat.

tom carter's 16-minute 'train kept' follows pretty damn nicely from his recent shots at infinity releases on important. a far cry from his more psychedelic folk experimentations, here he slashes and riffs like many a legend, and maybe, just maybe, it's a slight tribute to a certain band, too? this is a fully wild piece of work. black sleeves, pasted stark landscape cover, with an insert of liner notes. limited to 380 copies.

september 2008 release ; man, did you guys ever go apeshit over that barn owl disc on root strata from a coupla months back ... here’s a solo bed from member evan caminiti which, to me, sounds a lot more promising in the distant-star-gazing sense ...

higuma
"haze valley"

rs-41
cd-r
edition of 100

higuma is evan caminiti (of barn owl) & lisa mcgee. cast in a dark space in sf, haze valley holds rather true to its name, filling the edges with smoked out vocals, guitar delays and any number of drone layered acoustics. very much a distant sound, with distortions burnished down to smooth horizontal planes that lift the music to higher summits. not at all dissimilar from some of barn owl's recent excursions, but with the addition of lisa's vocals, this goes somewhere else completely.

offset printed sleeve with silver on white.
