the following was the deep and profound 2007 conversation between martin dumais (aun, montreal, canada) and nina kernicke (allseits, bremen germany), that led to the creation of irrlicht : ‘i like your music !’ she said ‘ i like your’s !’ he said. ‘let’s do something together !’. ‘ok !’. ‘let’s try something different like producing an entire album with only an harmonica, we could call the album harmonica…’.
after this intense exchange of the minds, the two started to work on this album that uses much more than harmonica, and is not titled harmonica either.
this joint venture of the two musicians, known for their somewhat abrasive live shows and recordings, turned out to be some of the most beautiful and serene music they produced in recent memory. the harmonica sound basis gently took a life of its own, weeving an almost classical resounding tapestry, with the addition of spacey guitars and vocals while retaining the grittier aspects of their respective work.
while the title irrlicht, might be interpreted as a nod to the klaus shulze’ album of the same , it was chosen for…actually there not entirely certain why it was chosen.
irrlicht marks a fourth release for aun on oral_records, and a first of a series of collaborative works that are presently taking form. allseits is nina kernicke who produces also as all sides and who collaborates with the german project troum. |
