august 2010 release ; five ... “rustles” for prepared accordion, albeit rather removed the language of said instrument, instead inhabiting some post-tnb / raymond dijkstra zones, demarcated only by the omnipresent thrum of baited bellows-breath ... outstanding !!!

44 alfredo costa monteiro ‘cinq bruissements – for solo accordion’  lp

coming after my first solo accordion recording (rumeur on creative sources, 2004), cinq bruissements is a new step into the exploration of the accordion; this time, the microphones were placed at a very tiny distance of the instrument, almost inside, as if it was literally auscultated by very greedy ears, attentive to any remote rumor. trying to penetrate the sonic secret of this secular box (pandora’s one was more essential, although it was a jar) reemphasizes a disconnection between what is predictable and what is identifiable.

very singular sounding accordion solo recording, at times like an array of bizarre analog electronics and at others like beautiful minimalist tape music, this is an unbelievable achievement in extended technique. there are still boundaries to be pushed and there is no genre to define one man’s most unique and inspired creation.

limited to 300 copies.

alfredo costa monteiro
porto (portugal), 1964. he lives and works in barcelona since 1992. he plays accordion and electric guitar. in 1992, he finishes his studies at the fine art school of paris, where he gets his degree in sculpture/multimedia. apart of his work as a visual artist, he starts to become involved in improvised music from 1995. since then, his work stands somewhere between visual arts, visual poetry and sound. since 1998, he is member of 22a, an independent collective for contemporary art.
ruth barberán
barcelona, 1966. since her integration in iba, col.lectiu de música i dansa improvisades, in1999, she starts to focus her work in free improvisation.currently, she has two stable formations : error focus, with ferran fages and i treni inerti, with alfredo costa monteiro.

ferran fages
barcelona, 1974 he plays the guitar, turntables and electronics. he's member of the collective iba since 1999. he plays regulary in different improvisation projects like:rror focus ( with ruth barberán) since 1998, cremaster ( with alfredo costa monteiro) since 2000. ambilis (with dorothee schmitz) since 2001. he plays with the coreographers and dancers: olga mesa, carme torrent and constanza brncic. he's played with joan saura, agustí fernández, jakob draminsky, franck stofer, antón ignorant, stefan prins,derek bailey, margarida garcía, francisco lópez, andrea neumann,peter kowald, taku unami, masahiko okura, masafumi ezaki, bukhard beins, guiseppe ielasi, mark wastell.... among others.

depicted on record is an a-topics meeting in music in the open space between two scenes.the 8 duets open on experimental proposals: 8 improvised musical meetings in the suspended time of mail exchanges. east to the west, japan & france.1+1 = 3. the musical arithmetic differs from what we were taught at school.each duet creates a sonic hybrid with a third element born out of the encounter of the musical identities.

hibari / abruitsecret / fragment / pricilia / vertpituite : from_to found its source in the will of 5 labels to gather young musicians from lebanon, france and japan playing in the fields of electroacoustic and improvised music. to renew them.
