ah sweet ; way above average psych-drool session between the italian jennifer gentle trio (the mere existence of whose sub pop lps kinda validate the label’s continued relevance, in my book at least ...) and acid mothers temple mainman makoto kawabata ... took the original sillyboy iteration of this album / disc on tour a few years back ; certainly made some of those late-night jaunts that much more pleasant ... this version adds an 18-minute bonus live track (kind of like those träd gräs och stenar reissues on 1/2 skivor & trams - actually not a bad comparison sound-wise either) ... some of the best music i’ve heard from either camp ; go for it ...

finally it is here, the long-awaited re-release of "the wrong cage", the superfreaky , acid rock album that introduced italian psych-pop mavericks jennifer gentle to the rest of the world, leading to their subsequent sub pop signing. originally self-released in late 2002 on their own imprint sillyboy records, "the wrong cage" saw the young italian quartet (who had already home-recorded a couple of eccentric albums) join forces with kawabata makoto, the legendary japanese guitar-god leader of acid mothers temple and zillion other projects, for a live album that captured the band at it's most ferocious.

the result was over 30 minutes of wonderful loud sonic carnage: two long, ultra-heavy guitar freakouts plus a eerily beautiful solo sarongi track played by kawabata - all in all, a must for all fans of heavy, guitar-driven psychedelic avant-rock. long out of print, "the wrong cage" is available again, now with the addition of a lo-fi bonus track, 18-minute long version of "bring them" cut on the another night of that tour and burning with even more fire and primal power than the original album. comes in elegant digipak!!!

'myth of the love electrique' is the second acid mothers temple & the melting paraiso u.f.o. album released by riot season, following the relatively laidback 'minstrel in the galaxy' (reposecd07) in 2004. musically sitting somewhere between their 1997 self titled debut album (psf) and the classic 'out-there' double album 'absolutely freak out (zap your mind!!!)' (staticresonance), 'myth of the love electrique' explores the many shades of the amt sound, managing to be both wild and beautiful at the same time.

'minstrel in the galaxy' is the first acid mothers temple & the melting paraiso ufo studio recording since the departure of vocalist/synth goddess cotton casino earlier this year. to replace cotton's space whispers, amt have recruited japanese duo afrirampo (who recently toured europe with sonic youth) to contribute vocals to this album and they fill the void with ease.

musically you can forget the mind-melting guitar psychouts of previous amt albums, this is the sound of a much darker amt in comedown mode. drones, acoustic guitars, misplaced voices and a beautiful 41 minute centre-piece title track all combine to make this their finest experimental studio work since the acclaimed 'absolutely freak out (zap your mind!)' double album.

there's still enough of the original amt sound going on here to keep the hardcore fans happy but also enough twists to bring in a whole new audience too. cd only in jewel case.

third album proper from this japanese trio consisting of emi nobuko (drums) and acid mothers temple duo higashi hiroshi (bass) and kawabata makoto (guitar).

all the music on this four song / 66 minute album was completely improvised, and not over-dubbed. the sounds fall through different styles of head splitting walls of sonic noise, quiet introspective lulls and freeform freakouts. tsurubami (pronounced without the 't') recently made their live debut in the uk & ireland as part of the 'acid mothers temple soul collective' tour with fellow collective members pardons and makoto kawabata playing solo. the tour was a great success and tsurubami in particular blew a few eardrums and minds along the way.

after a december 2001 japanese tour together, the two bands did a bit of home-recording together. kinski’s chris martin in the record’s liner notes: “months and months later, i sat down with the tapes and began mixing what seemed to be the most interesting 10 minutes of the session, which became ‘it’s nice to hear your voice.’ kawabata [makoto] wanted to overdub onto my mix (along with tsuyama, acid mothers’ bassist, who wasn’t at the original sessions) and the results are ‘planet crazy gold.’ ‘fell asleep on your lawn’ and ‘virginal plane 5:23’ are new kinski and acid mothers temple tracks (respectively).”
